Oilserv Completes Mechanical Work on TotalEnergies’ Ubeta Gas Pipeline
Oilserv Limited has announced the successful mechanical completion of the 16-inch multiphase onshore gas pipeline project being executed for TotalEnergies EP Nigeria Limited.
The company disclosed this in a statement on social media on Monday, describing the milestone as an important step towards delivering the project.
Oilserv said the achievement reflected the commitment, collaboration and collective efforts of the project team, particularly in overcoming anticipated and unforeseen challenges.
With mechanical completion achieved, the project team will proceed to pre-commissioning as work continues towards final delivery.
“A milestone worth celebrating. We are proud to announce the successful mechanical completion of the Ubeta 16-inch Multiphase Onshore Gas Pipeline Project for TotalEnergies EP Nigeria Limited,” Oilserv said.
“This marks an important milestone in the project’s delivery and reflects the commitment, collaboration and collective efforts of everyone involved, particularly in navigating both anticipated and unforeseen challenges.
“With mechanical completion achieved, the team moves into pre-commissioning as we progress towards project delivery.”
TotalEnergies and the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) took the Final Investment Decision (FID) on the Ubeta gas development in June 2024.
TotalEnergies, which operates the OML 58 onshore licence with a 40 per cent interest, is developing the project in partnership with NNPCL, which holds the remaining 60 per cent stake.
Located about 80 kilometres northwest of Port Harcourt, Rivers State, the Ubeta gas condensate field is expected to supply gas to Nigeria LNG Limited (NLNG).
The development involves a new six-well cluster connected to existing gas processing facilities at Obite through an 11-kilometre buried pipeline.
At peak production, the project is expected to deliver 300 million standard cubic feet of gas per day, equivalent to about 70,000 barrels of oil equivalent daily, including condensates.
Production was initially scheduled to commence in 2027.
The project is designed to leverage existing infrastructure to reduce development costs and emissions. Its carbon intensity is also expected to be lowered through a 5-megawatt solar plant at the Obite site and the electrification of the drilling rig.
TotalEnergies had said more than 90 per cent of the project’s work hours would be performed locally, as part of efforts to strengthen local content in Nigeria’s oil and gas industry.
The gas from Ubeta is expected to support NLNG’s operations on Bonny Island, Rivers State, as the company expands its liquefaction capacity from 22 million tonnes per annum to 30 million tonnes per annum.
TotalEnergies holds a 15 per cent interest in NLNG. The Ubeta development is expected to contribute to Nigeria’s gas supply and boost liquefied natural gas exports when production begins.
