NISO Restores National Grid After Multiple Trippings

The Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) has announced the restoration of normal operations on the national grid following multiple trippings on the 330kV transmission network on Monday.

The incident occurred at approximately 12:40 p.m. on October 19, prompting NISO and the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) to implement corrective measures to stabilise the power system.

In a statement issued on Monday, NISO confirmed that restoration efforts had been completed and the national grid had returned to normal operation.

The system operator clarified that the incident affected only a section of the grid, dismissing reports suggesting a wider disruption as inaccurate.

It urged members of the public to disregard unverified information circulating in the media and rely on its official communication channels for accurate updates on the status of the national grid.

NISO reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining grid stability, ensuring the reliable operation of Nigeria’s electricity transmission system and providing timely information to the public.

“NISO wishes to clarify that the incident affected only a section of the grid, contrary to unverified reports and claims currently circulating in the media.

“The public is therefore advised to disregard misleading information and rely on official NISO communication channels for accurate and verified updates on the status of the national grid.

“NISO remains committed to maintaining grid stability, ensuring the reliable operation of the national electricity transmission system, and providing timely and accurate information to the public,” the statement said.

The incident comes amid concerns over the stability of Nigeria’s electricity supply system, with disruptions to the national grid capable of affecting power delivery to distribution companies and consumers.
