NDPHC Woos Manufacturers, Businesses With Dedicated Power Supply
The initiative is being pursued under the company’s Eligible Customer Programme, which allows qualifying electricity consumers to access dedicated supply through commercially agreed arrangements.
NDPHC Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Engr. Jennifer Adighije, disclosed this during the commencement of the company’s Customer Service Week, urging businesses that meet the programme’s requirements to take advantage of the dedicated supply option.
Adighije said the arrangement was designed to provide eligible customers with more reliable electricity to support production and other commercial activities.
“To our existing customers, thank you for your trust. To businesses yet to join, power your growth with NDPHC’s Eligible Customer Programme, which offers dedicated power supply and mutually agreed commercial terms,” she said.
The push comes amid persistent challenges in Nigeria’s electricity market, where unreliable supply has increased operating costs for manufacturers and other businesses that often rely on diesel generators and other alternative sources.
NDPHC has a generation portfolio of 10 power plants comprising 28 gas turbines and three steam turbines, with an installed capacity of about 4,000MW.
However, the company’s installed generation capacity does not automatically translate into electricity available to consumers, as gas supply constraints, plant availability, transmission limitations, distribution infrastructure and commercial bottlenecks can affect power delivery.
NDPHC has therefore been pursuing the rehabilitation and optimisation of its existing plants, recovery of dormant capacity and improvements in gas supply to increase the utilisation of its generation assets.
A recent development was the return of the 450MW Alaoji Open Cycle Power Plant in Abia State to service after being shut down since 2023 amid disputes relating to gas supply and metering.
The return of Alaoji adds to the company’s available generation capacity, although increased generation alone does not guarantee reliable electricity supply to end users.
For manufacturers and other energy-intensive businesses, transmission and distribution constraints remain significant challenges, while the high cost of alternative power sources continues to affect production costs and competitiveness.
NDPHC’s Eligible Customer Programme is intended to establish a more direct commercial link between available electricity generation and qualifying large consumers.
Under the programme, eligible businesses can enter structured supply arrangements based on their electricity requirements and mutually agreed commercial terms, potentially providing greater predictability in energy planning.
NDPHC Executive Director, Strategy and Commercial, Hon. Patrick Obahiagbon, also emphasised the importance of customer-focused service delivery during the Customer Service Week programme.
The event was attended by members of the NDPHC Executive Management Team, including Executive Director, Generation, Engr. Abdullahi Kassim; Executive Director, Legal Services and Company Secretary, Dr Steven Andzenge; and Executive Director, Networks, Engr. Bello Babayo Bello, as well as general managers, heads of departments and other staff.
NDPHC’s generation assets were developed largely under the National Integrated Power Project and are located across various parts of the country.
The company has continued to pursue measures aimed at restoring dormant capacity and improving the operational performance of its power plants as the sector seeks to translate installed infrastructure into greater electricity output.
For businesses, however, the key considerations will remain the reliability, cost and quality of electricity delivered under dedicated supply arrangements, particularly amid rising energy costs.
The effectiveness of the initiative will ultimately depend on sustained generation, adequate gas supply and the ability of transmission and distribution networks to consistently deliver electricity to eligible customers.
