Dangote Refinery IPO Draws Investors from 120 Countries

Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals has concluded its Initial Public Offering (IPO), attracting investor applications from 120 countries across six inhabited continents, including all 54 African countries.

The company said the offering, which has been described as The People’s IPO, achieved full geographical coverage across Africa, marking a significant step towards expanding public participation in the ownership of strategic industrial assets.

According to the company, the exercise demonstrated how digital technology, financial institutions and innovative distribution channels could widen access to investment opportunities previously dominated by institutional and high-net-worth investors.

The offering was supported by commercial banks, stockbroking firms, fintech platforms, capital market institutions and other distribution partners, which helped extend participation beyond Nigeria to investors across international markets.

For Dangote Industries Limited, the successful conclusion of the IPO represents a new phase in the refinery’s development, providing an opportunity for a broader pool of investors to participate in the business.

President and Chief Executive of Dangote Industries Limited, Aliko Dangote, said the response demonstrated confidence in African industries and the continent’s capacity to mobilise domestic resources for economic development.

“When we set out to build this refinery, many doubted that a project of this scale could be delivered by Africans. We proved that Africa could build it. Today, through this historic IPO, we have demonstrated something equally important: Africans are ready to own and participate in the prosperity created by their own industries,” he said.

Dangote described the participation of investors from all 54 African countries as particularly significant, noting that the initiative was designed to give more Africans an opportunity to invest in major industrial projects.

He said the IPO was not undertaken solely to raise capital but also to promote shared ownership and encourage a stronger investment culture across the continent.

“We wanted to open the doors of ownership, give ordinary Africans an opportunity to participate in an enterprise of global significance and establish a new culture of shared prosperity. The refinery was built in Africa, by African determination, and its future must create opportunities for Africans,” Dangote said.

He added that the company would continue to focus on its expansion programme and Vision 2030 strategy, while strengthening operational performance and contributing to Africa’s energy security.

Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals, David Bird, said the international response reflected investor confidence in the refinery’s operational capabilities, industrial scale and long-term growth prospects.

“The successful conclusion of this IPO is a remarkable milestone for Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals. Investor applications spanning 120 countries demonstrate the extraordinary international interest in our business and the confidence that investors are placing in the future of this refinery,” Bird said.

He said the company would focus on operational excellence, sustainable growth and creating long-term value for shareholders.

The IPO opened on September 14, 2026, with 4.1 billion ordinary shares offered at N525 per share, representing a proposed capital raise of approximately N2.15tn.

The offer was initially scheduled to close on October 13 but was extended to October 27 following approval from the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), giving investors additional time to participate.

Group Chief Financial Officer of Dangote Industries Limited, Murat Erden, also commented on the execution and broader significance of the offering, saying the transaction had established an important precedent for African capital markets.
