Work Resumes at NUPRC as Unions Call Off One-Day Strike
Work has fully resumed at the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) following the suspension of a one-day industrial action embarked upon by workers’ unions.
The strike, which lasted about 12 hours, was called off late on Sunday night, June 1, 2026, after successful negotiations between the Commission’s management and the two in-house unions—the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) and the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG).
Although the industrial action temporarily disrupted administrative operations within the Commission, regulatory activities across oil and gas facilities reportedly continued without interruption.
In a statement issued by Eniola Akinkuotu, Head of Media and Corporate Communications on Tuesday, the Commission urged members of the public to disregard what it described as false reports suggesting crude oil production disruptions linked to the strike. It also dismissed claims that the dispute was centered on foreign training.
“The strike which lasted for 12 hours affected only administrative work while regulatory activities in oil and gas facilities remained unaffected.
“The Commission therefore calls on members of the public to disregard false reports on crude oil production disruptions as well as misleading publications stating that the disagreement centered on foreign training,” the statement read.
The Commission further assured staff and stakeholders of its commitment to improving the working environment and prioritising workforce development in line with the provisions of the Petroleum Industry Act.
