Speaking at the Nigerian Oil and Gas (NOG) Energy Week Conference and Exhibition, Ekanem said the company has developed four key areas through which the push for cleaner energy would be achieved.

He said, “I would say for us we are at the forefront, and we have four key areas when it comes to energy transmission. The goal is to emit zero emissions, which is to have zero impact on the environment.

“So, the four areas are Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification; reducing the emissions in your actual operations; avoiding using emission operating energy supplies to offset the carbon emissions entirely.

“These are the four processes that help one to calculate your emissions, then reduce them and avoid starting with emission-causing options, and finally try to offset it to a net zero.”

While giving an overview of the session handled by the company, Ekanem said, “We basically talked about capacity building in the context of Nigerian development and what type of classic building plan we need to adapt to meet new emerging market sectors.

“In our story, we have this experience of building capacity. We started even before the NCDMB or anyone else, and we just spoke of that plan of building capacity to meet that energy sector because we went through that story which began a long time ago.”

Speaking on challenges of funding, Ekanem said, “I think most times it’s only the big IOCs that can push forward this agenda, it’s always been like that, the big companies can do it, but now we have regulations that are looking after it.

“And whether we like it or not, the government has a lot of money, so if they can collaborate and provide that initial service, starting with that funding or the pre-education that we need, that would be quite helpful.”
