Tranos Solar Seals Landmark MoU with REA and Ogun State for 800MW Solar Power Plant
In a significant stride for Nigeria’s renewable energy ambitions, Tranos Solar has signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) and the Ogun State Government for the development of an 800-megawatt (MW) solar power plant, marking one of the largest private-sector-driven renewable energy projects in the country’s history.
The agreement, which symbolizes a robust commitment to sustainable energy expansion and local innovation, was formally executed during the Nigeria Renewable Energy Innovation Forum (NREIF) 2025, held at the Transcorp Hilton, Abuja.
Powering a Brighter Future for Nigeria
Speaking at the event, Jude Abalaka, Managing Director of Tranos Solar, described the collaboration as “a monumental step forward for Nigeria’s renewable energy sector,” underscoring the company’s dedication to the “Nigeria First” policy that prioritizes domestic capacity development, local manufacturing, and indigenous participation in the power industry.
In a LinkedIn statement following the signing, Tranos Solar wrote, “Powering a brighter future with Tranos Solar, we are thrilled to announce a monumental step forward for Nigeria’s renewable energy sector! At NREIF 2025, we officially signed an MoU with the REA and Ogun State Government for the development of an 800MW solar power plant.”
A Strategic Partnership for Sustainable Growth
According to Tranos, the tripartite agreement with REA and the Ogun State Government represents a long-term commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s renewable energy infrastructure, bridging the energy access gap, and creating jobs through local content development. The project is expected to significantly enhance power supply in the southwestern region, supporting industrial zones, residential areas, and public institutions.
The initiative aligns with the Federal Government’s renewable energy targets and the National Energy Transition Plan, which seeks to achieve net-zero emissions by 2060.
Leadership and Collaboration Driving Change
Tranos Solar commended Abba Aliyu, Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Rural Electrification Agency, and Chief Adebayo Adelabu, Minister of Power, for their leadership and commitment to creating an enabling environment for private sector participation.
The NREIF 2025 forum served as a vital platform for industry stakeholders, innovators, and policymakers to explore new technologies and partnerships aimed at scaling renewable energy adoption across Nigeria.
Empowering Communities, Energizing Industry
Reaffirming its mission, Tranos Solar emphasized that the 800MW solar plant will not only contribute to Nigeria’s clean energy goals but also support industrial growth, attract new investments, and empower communities. The company highlighted its long-term vision of delivering reliable, affordable, and sustainable power solutions that advance socio-economic development across Africa.
With Nigeria’s growing demand for electricity and rising interest in renewable alternatives, the Tranos-REA-Ogun partnership is expected to set a precedent for future collaborations, transforming the nation’s energy landscape and reinforcing Nigeria’s position as a leader in Africa’s clean energy revolution.
