TotalEnergies Climbs Rankings at 2026 Oil and Gas Industry Games with Strong Medal Finish
TotalEnergies recorded a standout showing at the 20th Nigeria Oil and Gas Industry Games (NOGIG 2026), securing five gold and 10 bronze medals to finish fourth overall—an improvement from its sixth-place ranking at the previous edition in 2024.
The week-long tournament, which kicked off on February 8 at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja, concluded on February 14 with a colourful closing ceremony celebrating teamwork, resilience and sportsmanship across the oil and gas sector.
Overall honours went to Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG), which topped the medals table with 52 medals—20 gold, 16 silver and 16 bronze—while Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.) placed second with 49 medals. The Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) finished third, winning five gold, eight silver and five bronze medals.
TotalEnergies’ performance was driven by several outstanding individual displays. Adesua Adewole captured gold in women’s golf, while Nonye Finecountry triumphed in the 8-Ball Pool event. Veteran competitor Ejehi Effiong added two more gold medals in lawn tennis and squash, along with additional bronze finishes in other contests. The company’s Scrabble squad—Reni Orioke, Ugonma Dennis Akano, Godfrey Ojile and Emmanuel Egbele—also secured gold, highlighting the team’s strength across multiple sporting disciplines.
Additional bronze medals were earned in men’s basketball and badminton, women’s 100m and 200m athletics, men’s chess, veteran table tennis (men and women), women’s scrabble, and both singles and doubles women’s tennis events.
Beyond the medal tally, the Games offered Team TotalEnergies—led by Henry Ogufere, chairman of the organising committee—an opportunity to reinforce its “Standing Together” corporate value. In a goodwill message, the company’s Country Chair in Nigeria, Mathieu Bouyer, encouraged athletes to compete with pride and unity, noting that the experience of participation and collaboration was as important as victory. Bouyer was represented at the closing ceremony by his Special Adviser, Cajetan Onu.
Team TotalEnergies also drew attention for its colourful march-past parade and strong fan turnout, leaving a lasting impression on spectators and competing teams.
