TotalEnergies Announces New Hydrocarbon Discovery Offshore Congo
In a statement, the company said the well targeted the Moho G structure and encountered a hydrocarbon column of approximately 160 metres in high-quality Albian reservoirs. Extensive data acquisition and sampling were also conducted to aid subsurface interpretation and inform future development plans.
According to TotalEnergies, the Moho G discovery, combined with an earlier find on the nearby Moho F structure, is estimated to hold close to 100 million barrels of recoverable resources. The company said the discoveries are expected to be developed through a tie-back to existing Moho production facilities.
Commenting on the development, Nicola Mavilla, Senior Vice-President for Exploration at TotalEnergies, said the proximity of the discovery to existing infrastructure would enable a cost-effective and rapid development cycle.
“This new discovery on the Moho license benefits from its proximity to existing production infrastructure, allowing a short cycle, cost effective tie-back development,” he said. “By leveraging our technical expertise and existing infrastructure, we are creating the conditions for future value-accretive production for the Company.”
TotalEnergies EP Congo operates the Moho license with a 63.5 per cent stake, in partnership with Trident Energy, which holds 21.5 per cent, and Société Nationale des Pétroles du Congo (SNPC), which owns the remaining 15 per cent.
The Moho field is supported by two floating production units, Alima and Likouf, with a combined output of approximately 90,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day.
