Tinubu Pledges Stronger Support for NDDC as Commission Marks 25th Anniversary
PORT HARCOURT, Nigeria – President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to empowering the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) to deliver on its core mandate of regional transformation, under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

Speaking through Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, at the 25th anniversary celebration of the NDDC in Port Harcourt, President Tinubu emphasized the strategic role of the Commission in Nigeria’s development architecture.
“The NDDC remains pivotal to the development of the Niger Delta region, which has greatly contributed to the growth of our nation,” he said. “My administration pledges full support to the Commission and will ensure it remains adequately empowered to perform its mandate.”
He directed the NDDC, through the Ministry of Regional Development, to complete all abandoned legacy projects and intensify efforts in youth engagement, agricultural development, and crime prevention.
In a keynote speech, WTO Director-General Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala urged the Commission to translate vision into measurable impact. “You have done a lot of work, but much more needs to be done,” she stated.
Former President Dr. Goodluck Jonathan also called for a pivot toward renewable energy and sustainability in the region, while Senate President Godswill Akpabio credited the legislative arm with the Commission’s establishment and pledged continued support.
Minister of Regional Development, Engr. Abubakar Momoh, lauded the NDDC for delivering high-impact infrastructure, including major road and power projects. NDDC Chairman Chiedu Ebie and Managing Director Dr. Samuel Ogbuku both affirmed that the silver jubilee marks a new era of inclusive development and stakeholder collaboration.
