Tinubu Appoints Abdullahi Ramat as New Chairman of NERC
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Engr. Abdullahi Garba Ramat as the new Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), replacing Sanusi Garba.
Ramat, 39, is an electrical engineer and seasoned administrator with a doctorate in Strategic Management. His appointment is part of the administration’s ongoing efforts to reposition the power sector and strengthen regulatory oversight.

Alongside Ramat, the President also nominated:
-
Mr. Abubakar Yusuf – Commissioner for Consumer Affairs
-
Dr. Fouad Olayinka Animashun – Commissioner for Finance and Management Services
All appointments are subject to Senate confirmation. However, to avoid a leadership vacuum, President Tinubu has directed that Engr. Ramat assume office in an acting capacity pending confirmation.
The President urged the appointees to deploy their knowledge and expertise in delivering on the administration’s vision for a more efficient and reliable electricity sector.
The nominations were announced on Thursday in a statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
