TCN Denies Tripping of 330kV Lines Supplying Abuja 

 

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has dismissed claims that the tripping of its 330kV transmission lines supplying Abuja caused a reduction in electricity allocation to the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC). 

TCN said the reduction in AEDC’s allocation from approximately 641MW to 314MW was caused by low power generation on the national grid and not by any transmission line fault.

The clarification followed a statement issued by AEDC on August 26, 2026, informing its customers of prevailing electricity supply constraints and attributing part of the reduction in its power allocation to the alleged tripping of transmission lines supplying Abuja from the Shiroro Transmission Substation.

In a statement, TCN described the claim as inaccurate and misleading, stressing that all 330kV transmission lines within the Abuja Region were currently in service.

“Contrary to the information contained in AEDC’s publication, all 330kV transmission lines within Abuja Region are currently in circuit, and no such tripping of the 330kV transmission lines supplying Abuja axis, as alleged by AEDC, has occurred,” TCN said.

The transmission company said the reduction in AEDC’s allocation and the resulting load shedding across its feeders could therefore not be attributed to the alleged tripping of its 330kV transmission lines in the Abuja Region.

TCN urged stakeholders to ensure accurate and clear dissemination of information concerning electricity supply challenges.

The company reiterated its commitment to transmitting available bulk electricity efficiently across the country while maintaining the stability, reliability and integrity of the national transmission grid.
