Smart Energies Expands Into Renewables, Unveils Clean Mobility and Subsidy Solutions to Boost Access
Lagos, Nigeria – Nigeria’s clean energy sector is on the brink of transformation as Smart Energies, a homegrown energy solutions company, announced an ambitious expansion into renewables and clean mobility.
The company, which has built a strong presence in the liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) market, is now diversifying into electric motorcycles, solar-powered charging stations, prepaid cooking gas subsidy cards, and digital platforms to make sustainable energy more accessible and affordable for households and businesses nationwide.
Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Yinka Opeke, described the new initiatives as a bold leap forward in redefining energy access in Nigeria and across Africa.
“Our mission is not just to power homes and businesses; it’s to empower communities. This innovation is critical in preventing communities from reverting to harmful fuels. By making clean energy affordable, we are protecting health, preserving the environment, and ensuring energy equity,” she said.
A highlight of the expansion is a lease-to-own scheme for electric motorcycles, which enables riders and small business owners to adopt clean mobility without prohibitive upfront costs. Flexible repayment plans, spread across three to twelve months, are expected to attract commercial transport operators and logistics entrepreneurs.
To consolidate its LPG campaigns, Smart Energies has also rolled out digital subsidy cards that allow families to purchase cooking gas at discounted rates, ensuring subsidies are delivered transparently and efficiently.
Dr. Opeke stressed that the company’s projects align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including:
-
SDG 7: Affordable and clean energy
-
SDG 9: Industry, innovation, and infrastructure
-
SDG 11: Sustainable cities and communities
-
SDG 13: Climate action
The company also pointed to past achievements such as its Trash-for-Gas campaign, which distributed more than 70,000 cylinders and trained thousands of households on LPG safety.
Calling for partnerships with governments, development agencies, investors, and private sector stakeholders, Dr. Opeke emphasized that collaboration is key to scaling clean energy adoption.
“Energy is the backbone of development. Together, we can create solutions that not only power economies but also uplift lives,” she added.
With its expanded footprint, Smart Energies positions itself as a central player in Nigeria’s transition to a cleaner, more sustainable energy future.
