Shell Sees Bright Future for Nigerian Companies in Offshore Developments

Yenagoa, Bayelsa State – Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company Ltd (SNEPCo) has projected a promising future for Nigerian companies that are willing to seize growing opportunities in offshore and shallow water oil and gas projects.

Speaking at the 5th Nigerian Oil and Gas Opportunity Fair (NOGOF), held in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, the Managing Director of SNEPCo, Mr. Ronald Adams, emphasized the potential of projects such as Bonga Southwest Aparo, Bonga North, and the Bonga Main Life Extension to significantly boost Nigerian businesses. His remarks were delivered by the Head of Supply Chain, Mr. Charles Oranyeli.

“SNEPCo pioneered Nigeria’s deepwater frontier with the Bonga development as the first deepwater oilfield exploration and production venture in the country,” said Adams. “Our operations have greatly benefitted Nigerian businesses, and we expect them to get ready to take up more opportunities.”

Adams encouraged Nigerian companies to enhance their capacity to handle higher value contracts and actively participate in areas such as:

  • Logistics

  • Drilling

  • Fabrication and construction of subsea manifolds

  • Mooring and loading systems

  • Pressure vessels

  • Gas processing equipment

  • Procurement and civil works in shallow water

Since commencing production at Bonga in 2005, SNEPCo has consistently supported Nigerian contractors and service providers to scale their capacity by developing systems and a competent workforce. The goal remains to ensure safe, timely, and budget-friendly project delivery — not only within Nigeria but across the West African subregion.

This commitment has enabled Nigerian companies to play key roles in the operations of the Bonga Floating, Production, Storage and Offloading (FPSO) vessel, which hit a milestone by producing its 1-billionth barrel of oil on February 3, 2023.

“SNEPCo sees Nigerian content development as a business driver and not just a regulatory requirement,” Adams added. “We will continue to support our companies to play even bigger roles in oil and gas operations.”

The three-day NOGOF event is being hosted by the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) under the theme:
“Driving Investment and Production Growth: Shaping a Sustainable Future for Nigeria’s Oil and Gas Industry Through Indigenous Capacity Development.”

SNEPCo is one of the sponsors of the fair and is hosting an exhibition that showcases its contributions to the Nigerian economy and communities.
