Shell Highlights Role in Nigeria’s Energy Industry at SPE Conference
Shell is showcasing its contributions to Nigeria’s oil and gas sector at the annual international conference of the Nigeria Section of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE), which opened today in Lagos. The company also received recognition for its recent Final Investment Decision (FID) on the Bonga North project at the opening ceremony.
As one of over 60 exhibitors, Shell’s stand features its key Nigerian businesses, including:
-
Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company Ltd. (SNEPCo)
-
Shell Nigeria Gas (SNG)
-
All On – an impact investment firm supporting energy access in Nigeria
-
Daystar Power – provider of integrated solar solutions for businesses across West Africa
The Minister of State for Gas, Ekperikpe Ekpo, led dignitaries on a tour of the Shell stand. Receiving the delegation, Senior Production Geologist Abidemi Belgore noted:
“Shell has been powering progress in Nigeria for more than 60 years by pioneering oil and gas production onshore and offshore, and by investing in social initiatives that improve lives across the country. We are proud to leverage technology and talent for a resilient and sustainable energy future.”
Shell was honoured by SPE for the $5 billion Bonga North FID, announced in late 2024. The project, currently under execution, has an estimated recoverable resource of over 300 million barrels of oil equivalent (boe) and is expected to reach a peak output of 110,000 barrels per day.

Commenting on the award, Marno de Jong, Executive Vice President and Country Chair, Shell Nigeria, said:
“We are pleased that our operations in Nigeria have created real value through taxes, royalties, local content development, and impactful social investments in health and education. Shell remains committed to partnering for Nigeria’s development, and the 2025 SPE conference provides an excellent platform to reaffirm our belief in the country’s future.”
