Seplat Energy Stresses Community Empowerment for Stability in the Energy Sector.

Seplat Energy Plc, a prominent Nigerian independent energy company, underscored the vital role of executing corporate social investment (CSI) programs and empowering communities to bolster stability within the energy sector and safeguard critical national assets.

At the Society of Petroleum Engineers Oloibiri Lecture Series and Energy Forum (SPE OLEF) 2024 in Abuja, Mr. Samson Ezugworie, Chief Operating Officer of Seplat Energy, emphasized the necessity for a sustainable approach and forward-thinking strategies in addressing security challenges and ensuring resilience in the energy industry.

Ezugworie emphasized the importance of collaboration and responsible practices in achieving sustainability objectives. He highlighted Seplat Energy’s dedication to implementing social investment initiatives in its operational areas, with a focus on healthcare, education, infrastructure, skills development, and community energy access.

Furthermore, he stressed the significance of empowering and involving communities, noting that empowered communities are more inclined to engage positively and contribute to shared objectives, thereby mitigating agitation and violence.

Ezugworie commended the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) and the government for their endeavors in securing oil and gas assets, acknowledging the positive impact of collaborative efforts on industry stability. He also lauded recent governmental initiatives, such as the signed Executive Orders in the oil and gas sector.

Regarding investment inflows, Ezugworie highlighted the importance of Seplat Energy’s ANOH gas plant, anticipated to revolutionize domestic gas supply upon completion. He also underscored the value created by successful divestment programs undertaken by international oil companies (IOCs), contributing to industry sustainability and the Nigerian economy.
