Seplat Energy Appoints Tony Elumelu to Board as Langavant Resigns
Seplat Energy Plc has announced the appointment of Mr. Tony O. Elumelu, CFR, as a Non-Executive Director on its Board, following the resignation of Mr. Olivier Cleret De Langavant.
In a statement signed by the company’s Director, Legal/Company Secretary, Mrs. Edith Onwuchekwa, Seplat Energy said Langavant’s resignation takes effect from January 22, 2026.
Langavant joined Seplat Energy’s Board on January 28, 2020, as a nominee of Etablissements Maurel et Prom SA (M&P). His resignation follows the sale of M&P’s 20.07 per cent shareholding in Seplat Energy to a consortium comprising Heirs Holdings Limited and Heirs Energies Limited.
The company noted that Langavant made significant contributions during his six-year tenure, providing strategic and technical insights that supported Seplat Energy’s growth, operational resilience and long-term corporate objectives.
Meanwhile, Elumelu’s appointment as Non-Executive Director also takes effect from January 22, 2026.
Elumelu is the Founder and Chairman of Heirs Holdings, a pan-African investment company with interests spanning energy, power, banking, insurance, technology, real estate, hospitality and healthcare. He also chairs United Bank for Africa (UBA) Group, Heirs Energies, and Transcorp Group, whose subsidiaries include Transcorp Power and Transcorp Hotels Plc.
In addition, he is the Founder of The Tony Elumelu Foundation, established in 2010 to empower African entrepreneurs across all 54 African countries. His global recognition includes being named among TIME Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People in the World in 2020 and receiving the Commander of the Order of the Federal Republic (CFR) in 2022.
Elumelu also serves on several international boards, including UNICEF’s Generation Unlimited Global Leadership Council and the International Monetary Fund’s Advisory Council on Entrepreneurship and Growth.
Commenting on the changes, Chairman of Seplat Energy, Mr. Udoma Udo Udoma, expressed appreciation for Langavant’s service and welcomed Elumelu to the Board.
“On behalf of the Board and Management, I wish to express our profound appreciation to Mr. Langavant for his outstanding contribution to Seplat Energy over the past six years. His expertise and commitment have been instrumental in driving our strategic initiatives. We warmly welcome Mr. Elumelu to the Board and look forward to leveraging his wealth of experience and leadership as we continue to pursue sustainable growth and value creation for all stakeholders,” Udoma said.
