Savannah Energy Names Kehinde Ogunwumiju to Board as Non-Executive Director
Savannah Energy PLC, the British independent energy company focused on delivering impactful energy projects across Africa, has confirmed the appointment of Kehinde Olamide Ogunwumiju as a Non-Executive Director, with immediate effect.
The appointment follows Savannah Energy’s earlier announcement on October 9, 2025, outlining plans to strengthen its board by adding two Nigerian directors as part of its long-term growth strategy on the continent.
Commenting on the development, Savannah’s Non-Executive Chairman, Joseph Pagop Noupoué, described Ogunwumiju as a highly respected international legal practitioner with extensive experience supporting fast-growing organisations.
“He is an internationally respected legal professional with a proven track record of supporting dynamic, high-growth organisations such as Savannah. I believe his expertise will be instrumental as the Company continues to execute its growth strategy across Africa,” Noupoué said.
In his response, Ogunwumiju expressed enthusiasm about joining Savannah Energy at what he described as a pivotal stage in its development. He noted that he looks forward to contributing his experience at board level and working closely with management to advance the company’s strategic objectives.
Ogunwumiju is the Managing Partner at Afe Babalola & Co, one of Africa’s leading law firms. Appointed a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) in 2017, he remains one of the youngest lawyers to attain the prestigious rank, Nigeria’s equivalent of the King’s Counsel designation.
His legal career includes representing the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) in over 100 disputes and acting for the Federal Republic of Nigeria in several high-profile international cases. Notably, he was part of the legal team that successfully defended Nigeria against a nearly $5 billion claim at the International Centre for the Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID) in Washington, DC.
Ogunwumiju has also participated in numerous domestic and international arbitration proceedings and, in recognition of his contributions to the legal profession, was awarded the Officer of the Order of the Federal Republic (OFR) in the 2023 National Honours List.
He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (UK) and holds memberships in several professional bodies, including the Nigerian Bar Association, International Bar Association, Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria, and the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators of Nigeria.
Ogunwumiju obtained his Bachelor of Laws degree with honours from the University of Ibadan and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2005. He later earned a Master of Laws degree in International Commercial Law from the University of Northumbria, Newcastle upon Tyne.
In line with regulatory disclosures under the AIM Rules, Ogunwumiju, aged 43, has held several directorships and partnerships over the past five years and does not hold any shares in Savannah Energy PLC.
