Sahara Group Foundation Expands ‘Go Recycling’ Hubs to Promote Sustainability
Sahara Group Foundation has commissioned its 15th Sahara Go Recycling Hub in Ijede, Ikorodu, Lagos, reinforcing its commitment to environmental protection, sustainable waste management, and community empowerment.
Located opposite the Ijede General Hospital, the new hub extends a growing network of 14 recycling centres across Lagos, all dedicated to promoting a circular economy that transforms waste into value.
At the inauguration, Chidilim Menakaya, Director of Sahara Group Foundation, said the initiative represents “more than environmental stewardship — it’s about creating opportunities, redefining value, and empowering communities.”
Egbin Power CEO, Mokhtar Bounour, described the hub as “an investment in public health and economic empowerment.” Similarly, Hon. Kabir Femi Kareem of Ijede LCDA hailed the project’s potential to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and create jobs.
Since inception, the Go Recycling Initiative has collected over 500 tonnes of recyclables and paid out more than ₦50 million to beneficiaries, impacting over 1,000 households. The Ijede hub, implemented with Egbin Power Plc, EcoBarter, and Ijede LCDA, encourages residents to exchange recyclable waste for incentives.
“The Sahara Go Recycling project is creating a ripple effect across Lagos,” Menakaya said. “Through partnerships, we’re building a future where waste becomes wealth.”
Sahara Group Foundation plans to expand the project across Africa, advancing its mission of Building Sustainable Communities through EXTRApreneurship.
