Renaissance Africa Scoops Energy Deal of the Year at NIES 2026 for $2.4B Shell Acquisition
Renaissance Africa Energy Company has been named the winner of the Energy Deal of the Year for 2025 at the Nigeria International Energy Summit (NIES) 2026 awards, held in Abuja. The accolade recognises the company’s landmark $2.4 billion acquisition of Shell’s onshore assets, a transaction hailed as transformative for Nigeria’s oil and gas sector.
The NIES awards committee highlighted the March 2025 deal as one of the most significant developments in the country’s energy landscape, noting that it strengthened local participation in upstream operations and advanced Nigeria’s energy autonomy.
“Some transactions change balance sheets. This one changed history,” the committee said in its citation, emphasizing the deal’s historic impact on ownership and operational control in the sector.
Receiving the award, Renaissance’s Managing Director and CEO, Tony Attah, described the recognition as a testament to Nigerian capability in the energy industry.
“This recognition is deeply meaningful because it affirms a bold belief that Nigerians can build, operate, and lead world-class energy enterprises at scale. The onshore asset acquisition from an international oil company was more than a transaction; it was a turning point for indigenous participation in our industry,” Attah said.
He dedicated the award to Renaissance’s workforce, partners, and the communities the company serves, noting that:
“Together, we are proving that Nigeria is not just a host to global energy but can be the driver, the innovator, and the standard-bearer for Africa’s energy future.”
Renaissance’s achievement at NIES 2026 builds on a series of accolades in 2025, including the Energy Excellence Award at the Nigeria Oil and Gas Energy Week and the title of Nigerian Content International Upstream Operator of the Year. Tony Attah also received the Local Content Icon of the Year award from the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board.
Renaissance Africa operates Nigeria’s largest oil and gas joint venture assets under the NNPC/Renaissance/TotalEnergies/AENR JV, with production spanning onshore, swamp, and shallow water locations across the Niger Delta.
