Prof. Iledare Highlights Corporate Investment as Catalyst for Academic Growth at Egbogah Legacy Lecture

Port Harcourt, Nigeria – Corporate investment in education and industry remains critical to Nigeria’s long-term growth, according to Professor Wumi Iledare, who delivered closing remarks at the 14th Dr. Emmanuel Egbogah Legacy Lecture Series hosted at the University of Port Harcourt’s Emerald Energy Institute.

The lecture series, organized by the Emmanuel Egbogah Foundation (EEF), celebrated the late Dr. Emmanuel Egbogah’s contributions to Nigeria’s oil and gas sector.

Prof. Iledare underscored that prosperity must be accompanied by posterity, emphasizing the need for intergenerational knowledge transfer supported by corporate social investments.

“There’s no regret in choosing to return to Nigeria, because prosperity without posterity is inconsequential. That is what Dr. Egbogah stood for – investing in building the future. And that is why this fire will never die,” Iledare affirmed.

He praised Shell Petroleum Development Company for its pioneering role in talent development, urging other firms, such as Renaissance, to replicate such impact. He also lauded Professor Joseph Ajienka for his transformational leadership in academia and industry.

Virtual remarks were delivered by Dr. Emeka Egbogah, son of the late Dr. Emmanuel Egbogah, who commended the Foundation for sustaining his father’s legacy and providing platforms for students and graduates to engage with industry.

Sponsors of the lecture series were recognized for their consistent role in exposing emerging professionals to global opportunities.

Prof. Iledare concluded by stressing that transactional leadership is not enough for Nigeria’s future, calling for more transformational leaders who can inspire change and invest in human capacity.
