Power Boost for Borno: Shettima Commissions NDPHC Injection Substation at Borno State University

Vice President Kashim Shettima has commissioned a 1×7.5MVA 33kV/11kV distribution injection substation at Borno State University, a project executed by the Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC) under its Distribution Intervention Projects initiative.

The substation, inaugurated during the Eid festivities, is expected to significantly improve power supply to the university and surrounding underserved communities. The infrastructure includes a 7.5MVA injection substation, 3km of 33kV transmission line, 2.5km of 11kV distribution line, 2.5km of low-tension lines, and three 500KVA distribution transformers.

Vice President Shettima, who also chairs the NDPHC Board, described the project as a milestone aligned with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda for the power sector, aimed at expanding electricity access nationwide through targeted and impactful interventions.

Engr. Jennifer Adighije, Managing Director/CEO of NDPHC, noted that the intervention underscores the company’s mandate to strengthen Nigeria’s electricity value chain. “This facility affirms our commitment to scaling generation, transmission, and distribution infrastructure, particularly for communities that have been historically underserved,” she said.

NDPHC’s Executive Director of Networks, Engr. Bello Babayo, emphasized the technical value of the installation. “This substation will enable the evacuation of up to 6MW of electricity, improving reliability and stability for the university and the larger community. It supports the development of industrial and commercial hubs within the region.”
