The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Akwa Ibom Command, has apprehended six individuals suspected of engaging in illegal dealings in petroleum products and impersonation. Mr. Eluyemi Eluwade, the commandant of the NSCDC, Akwa Ibom Command, announced the arrests during a news conference held in Uyo on Wednesday.

According to Mr. Eluwade, the suspects were apprehended along the Calabar-Itu Highway on January 29 by operatives of the Anti-vandal squad. The command also seized a truck used by the suspects to transport the illegal products, as well as a vehicle used as an escort.

The commandant explained that the suspects had disguised themselves as a joint task force of a security agency. They were found in possession of a truck carrying approximately 45,000 liters of diesel, destined for an undisclosed location, without the required documentation.

The NSCDC is taking decisive action against such illegal activities, and the apprehension of these suspects demonstrates the commitment of law enforcement agencies to combat illicit activities in the petroleum sector.

“The command acted on a tip-off and deployed its personnel who intercepted the suspects along the Calabar-Itu highway.

“The suspects are being investigated at the State Command headquarters,” he said.

The individuals arrested in connection with alleged illegal dealings in petroleum products and impersonation, as announced by Mr. Eluyemi Eluwade, the commandant of the NSCDC, Akwa Ibom Command, are listed as Abbas Ohis, Jubrin James, Aniefiok Okon, Maduka Ojukwu, Idorenyin Etim, and Uche Ahechukwu.

The commandant issued a warning to those involved in illegal activities within the petroleum sector, urging them to desist from such actions.
