NNPCL GCEO Urges Men to Support Breast Cancer Awareness, Highlights Role of Family in the Fight

The Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) of NNPC Limited, Mr. Bayo Ojulari, has called on men to play an active role in supporting breast cancer awareness and prevention efforts, emphasizing that the disease affects not just women but families as a whole.

Ojulari made the appeal in a LinkedIn post following his meeting with a team from NNPC Medical Services Limited ahead of this year’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month activities. The company’s program includes free education on how to conduct self-breast examinations and other preventive health initiatives.

Reflecting on his interaction with the team, Ojulari said awareness goes beyond the symbolism of the pink ribbon. “it represents the bravery to engage in difficult conversations about women’s health. It’s about asking your loved ones if they’ve scheduled their mammogram and being there to listen and support without judgment,” he wrote.

He noted that awareness means being a constant source of strength — not only during challenging periods but also in quiet moments of fear.

While acknowledging that breast cancer primarily affects women, Ojulari stressed that the emotional and social impact of the disease extends to entire families. “I think about my wife, mother, sister, and friends, and I’ve learned that as a man, my role in this fight is critical,” he said.

Ojulari further encouraged men to take proactive steps in supporting women in their lives. “To all the men out there-brothers, sons, and fathers-we must step up and support our loved ones. Let’s embrace our roles in awareness and action, educate ourselves about the signs, and show that we are all in this battle together,” he urged.

The NNPC Medical Services team’s initiative forms part of the company’s commitment to promoting health education and preventive care as part of its corporate social responsibility during Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Ojulari was appointed GCEO of the NNPCL in April by President Bola Tinubu. Prior to his appointment, he served as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Renaissance Africa Energy Company — a consortium of indigenous energy firms that recently acquired Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria (SPDC) in a $2.4 billion transaction.

Beyond his work in Nigeria, Ojulari has garnered extensive international experience across Europe and the Middle East, holding various roles as a petroleum process and production engineer, strategic planner, field developer, and asset manager. In 2015, he was appointed Managing Director of Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company (SNEPCo), a position he held until July 2021.

According to NNPCL’s latest monthly performance report, the company recorded a profit after tax of N216 billion from total revenue of N4.26 trillion in September 2025.

Crude oil and condensate production averaged 1.61 million barrels per day (bpd) during the review month — slightly below the 1.64 million bpd achieved in August. The report also showed that NNPCL produced 5,284 million standard cubic feet (mmscf) of gas in September, while its downstream retail network maintained a 77 percent availability rate for Premium Motor Spirit (PMS).

The company’s flagship gas infrastructure projects — the Obiafu-Obrikom-Oben (OB3) and Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano (AKK) pipelines — have reached 96 percent and 88 percent completion, respectively. Upstream availability stood at 96 percent, underscoring steady progress in NNPCL’s operational efficiency and infrastructure delivery under Ojulari.
