NNPC Warns Against Fraudulent Claims by Fake Representatives Soliciting Illegitimate Engagements

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited has issued a public warning to Nigerians and the international business community about the activities of fraudsters and impostors falsely claiming to represent the company in business dealings.

In a statement released by the national oil company, NNPC Limited said it has uncovered several instances where individuals and companies have been approaching local and foreign entities under false pretenses. These impostors, posing as official representatives of NNPC, have reportedly been soliciting fees from unsuspecting individuals and organizations, promising meetings with the company’s board of directors, senior executives, and management staff.

“These engagements are unauthorized, illegal, and have no connection whatsoever with NNPC Limited or any of its business units,” the company stated firmly.

NNPC emphasized that all official interactions and business dealings with the company are conducted solely through clearly established and verified channels. It warned that any request for payment in exchange for access to company officials or corporate privileges is a red flag and should be treated as fraudulent.

The company specifically advised foreign investors, international partners, and multinational organizations operating in or exploring opportunities in Nigeria’s energy sector to remain vigilant and report any suspicious approaches to the appropriate authorities without delay.

“NNPC Limited does not request or accept fees for meetings, introductions, or business opportunities,” the statement continued. “Any engagement with our management or subsidiaries is conducted transparently, with full compliance to due process and corporate governance protocols.”

The company also urged members of the public, stakeholders, and potential partners to direct any inquiries or verification requests to the official email address: [email protected].

Reaffirming its commitment to corporate transparency and the protection of stakeholder interests, NNPC Limited assured the public that it would continue to work closely with security agencies to identify and bring perpetrators of these scams to justice.

“As Nigeria’s national energy company, NNPC remains committed to integrity, due diligence, and ethical conduct in all our operations. We call on everyone to be vigilant and to share this information to help protect others from falling victim to these fraudulent schemes.”
