NNPC and NIPCO Gas Partnership Expands AutoCNG Network Nationwide.

NIPCO Gas Limited, in partnership with the Nigeria National Petroleum Company Ltd (NNPCL), is set to transform the AutoCNG infrastructure throughout Nigeria, providing drivers with an alternative fuel option to traditional petroleum products.

During an update on the company’s efforts to promote gas usage as a vehicular fuel nationwide and its pipeline expansion projects in Lagos, Nagendra Verma, Managing Director of NIPCO Gas, unveiled this innovative initiative.

Verma highlighted NIPCO Gas’s pioneering role in AutoCNG development since its establishment in 2009, with its network stretching from Benin City to Ibafo in Ogun State and Kogi State. He stressed that with government backing, the AutoCNG network is poised for further expansion, focusing on key areas such as Abuja FCT, Ibadan in Oyo State, and Oron in Akwa Ibom State.

“Currently, NIPCO Gas operates 15 AutoCNG stations nationwide, facilitating smooth travel for CNG vehicles from Lagos to destinations as far as Abuja and Kaduna, thanks to strategically located refueling points along the route,” Verma explained.

The collaboration between NIPCO Gas and NNPC, endorsed by the Presidency, demonstrates a shared commitment to serving the Nigerian population. With plans in motion to build 35 new AutoCNG stations, NIPCO Gas aims to tackle the challenges faced by millions of citizens, with four stations in Lagos set to be completed by April/May 2024.

Verma expressed appreciation to stakeholders, including PCNGI, NMDPRA, SON, NNPC, and various Ministries and Departments, recognizing the capital-intensive nature of gas distribution and AutoCNG projects, requiring substantial investment and persistence.

Beyond AutoCNG, NIPCO Gas is extending its gas transportation pipeline towards Ibadan and expanding its gas distribution network in the Lekki Free Zone, contributing to local gas utilization and reducing dependence on imported fossil fuels.

NIPCO Gas extends its appreciation to the Government and media for their steadfast support as we strive to realize this transformative vision,” Verma concluded.
