NNPC Ltd Woos Investors at Gastech, Highlights Vast Energy Opportunities in Nigeria

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.) has urged international investors to take advantage of the enormous opportunities within Nigeria’s energy sector.

Speaking during the Energy Talk segment of the 2025 Gastech Exhibition & Conference in Milan, Italy, NNPC Ltd.’s Group Chief Executive Officer, Engr. Bashir Bayo Ojulari, said Nigeria is well-positioned to become Africa’s leading energy investment destination. He credited President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s reforms with improving the investment climate and creating a more enabling environment for growth.

Ojulari noted that while some investors are already venturing into gas-based industries such as petrochemicals and methanol production, more investment is needed to accelerate the Federal Government’s plan to power Nigeria’s transport sector with Compressed Natural Gas (CNG).

Untapped Oil and Gas Potential
The GCEO stressed that beyond gas, Nigeria’s crude oil sector still holds significant promise. With current output at about 1.7 million barrels per day, he revealed that more than 200 oil fields remain undeveloped, alongside vast untapped reservoirs that present lucrative opportunities for investors willing to commit resources to exploration and production.

Commitment to Energy Transition
Ojulari also highlighted NNPC Ltd.’s sustainability initiatives, noting that the company is investing heavily in carbon capture, energy efficiency, and gas flare reduction to meet the standards of global financing partners. He disclosed that key gas infrastructure projects—such as the Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano (AKK) Gas Pipeline and the NLNG Train 7 Project—are at advanced stages of development.

According to him, Nigeria’s energy transition strategy is aimed at tackling energy poverty by promoting gas as the preferred fuel for industrialisation and Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) as clean cooking energy for millions of households across Africa.

Global Platform for Engagement
Gastech, one of the world’s largest gatherings of energy professionals, attracted over 50,000 participants and more than 1,000 exhibitors from 150 countries this year. The conference serves as a platform for global industry leaders to discuss the future of the energy sector, making it a strategic venue for NNPC Ltd. to market Nigeria as a viable and attractive investment hub.
