NNPC Ltd. Partners with Baker Hughes to Boost Nigeria’s Oil and Gas Sector

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.) is strengthening its drive for increased crude oil and gas production through a strategic collaboration with global energy technology firm, Baker Hughes.

The Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPC Ltd., Mr. Bayo Ojulari, revealed the partnership during a meeting with a Baker Hughes delegation at the NNPC Towers in Abuja on Tuesday. The delegation was led by Mr. Tayo Akinokun, Senior Vice President, Global Geozones, Oilfield Services & Equipment at Baker Hughes.

Discussions at the meeting centered on forming strategic alliances to advance technical capabilities, accelerate production growth, and consolidate existing partnerships on key assets that align with NNPC’s broader growth agenda.

Baker Hughes, a long-standing partner in Nigeria’s oil and gas industry, has previously collaborated with NNPC on various upstream and midstream projects. This new partnership builds on that history, with both companies focused on improving efficiency, production output, and sustainability in operations.

A major highlight of the collaboration is the deployment of the Leucipa automated field production solution. In February, Baker Hughes announced an agreement with the NNPC Ltd./FIRST Exploration & Petroleum Development Company (FIRST E&P) Joint Venture (JV) to implement this cutting-edge system in offshore operations in the Niger Delta — the first such deployment in Sub-Saharan Africa.

Leucipa is designed to optimize well performance and production efficiency by automating tasks such as performance analysis, opportunity identification, and scorecard management. The system utilizes real-time data to support intelligent, outcome-driven operations, helping to reduce inefficiencies and lower carbon emissions.

Amerino Gatti, Executive Vice President of Oilfield Services & Equipment at Baker Hughes, emphasized the impact of Leucipa, describing it as a game-changer that enables smarter, more efficient oilfield operations. He noted that the collaboration with the NNPC/FIRST E&P JV reflects a commitment to the responsible development of Africa’s energy resources.

“Leucipa is enhancing the oilfield to be smarter and more efficient, enabling our customers to maximize the value of their assets,” Gatti stated.

The deployment of Leucipa is expected to give operators a clearer view of operational optimization opportunities through real-time insights, thereby improving decision-making and unlocking untapped reserves. The partnership marks another step in NNPC Ltd.’s efforts to modernize Nigeria’s energy sector, increase output, and deliver value through technology-led solutions.
