Nigeria’s Local Content Successes Spotlighted at Namibian Oil & Gas Conference
Windhoek, Namibia – Nigeria’s achievements in local content development have taken centre stage at the 2025 Namibia Oil and Gas Conference, where the country’s model is being showcased as a blueprint for African nations.
Representatives from the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) and the Petroleum Technology Association of Nigeria (PETAN) are participating to promote African local content, open new markets, and create cross-border opportunities.
Delivering a presentation at the Local Content Masterclass, NCDMB Director of Corporate Services Dr. Abdulmalik Halilu outlined strategies for African nations to build competitive advantages in specialised oil and gas services.
Key points from Nigeria’s success story include:
-
Establishment of world-class fabrication and construction yards
-
Growth of manufacturing and service sectors
-
Human capital development and integration capability for FPSOs
-
Promotion of equipment assembly and SME growth
-
Prioritisation of gas-based industrialisation
Halilu emphasised that local content development is a marathon, not a sprint, urging policies that apply to all industry players, not just foreign firms. He also encouraged African countries to emulate models where different nations specialise in specific manufacturing components — similar to the production of Boeing aircraft — to boost regional trade and self-reliance.
The conference continues until Friday, with further presentations from Nigerian officials, including NCDMB Executive Secretary Engr. Felix Omatsola Ogbe and PETAN Chairman Mr. Wole Ogunsanya.
