Nigerian Institute of Welding – Clarity to the Fabricated Confusion

The attention of the caretaker committee of the NIW constituted pursuant to a court decision and in line with the requirement of the law on the 29th of August 2025, has been drawn to a fictitious publication in This Day Newspapers on the 9th of October, in which some individuals claimed legitimacy and final authority in the affairs of NIW.

While silence would been a preferred response by the current leadership of NIW to the said publication for its obvious falsehood, the antecedents of Solomon Edebiri in selling false hoods at all cost and through any channel possible to deceive and confuse unsuspecting members of the public or stakeholders on any issue of his interest, necessitates the need for this response.

The publication was clandestinely tailored to misinform the public that there is a leadership crisis in NIW and or that there are erring factions within the institute. The publication, which did not bother to give details, was a tailored falsehood deliberately drafted to misinform, not inform.

It is necessary to inform those unaware, and to refresh the memory of those aware that the stunt which Solomon Edebiri and his erstwhile team are currently desperately trying to act out in NIW, is a direct repeat of Solomon’s term as president of Petroleum Training Institute Alumni Association. As PTI Alumni president, he desperately clutched on to the seat of the president against all constitutional stipulations even while the institute was witnessing heavy failures across multiple lines. It took a force majeure to unseat Solomon and his team from the leadership table of PTI alumni.  The alumni hve since returned to winning ways with volumes of successes recorded.

For the records, NIW categorically states as follows:

  1. That the so-called Solomon Edebiri led exco had since expired over 10 years ago, by virtue of the NIW’s constitution, which stipulates that an exco can only serve for 2 terms of 3 years each and no more. Since the expiration of their tenure, Solomon Edebiri has at various times changed his nomenclature from NIW president to NIW chief executive, NIW chairman, member of NIW BOT and currently calls himself secretary of NIW BOT. All these are done without recourse to the AGM.
  2. That due to the abuse of the constitution the failure to call for an AGM for years to avoid accountability, wanton mismanagement of funds, among others, the court in a case between NIW’s Board Trustees members vs Stakeholders ruled on the 15th day ofJanuary,2025 that an AGM shall be called. Thus, an AGM as 1 above was conducted.
  3. That the AGM was held following recommendation from the court judgement delivered on the 15th of January,2025 to call for AGM. All due process followed. Solomon Edebiri and all other members and stakeholder adequately pre informed and invited with several reminders

That the AGM was an open affair and open invitation extended to all members including Solomon Edebiri and his marauders.

  1. That the said so-called Solomon Edebiri led exco claiming ownership NIW, has held the institution to ransom for 19 years without holding AGM for years, or conduct of election for the emergence of a new exco. This is unconstitutional, illegal, beats every commonsense point of view, and indeed was one of the reasons that the court directed that an AGM must be held to resolve all issues in the NIW.
  2. That it is on record that criminal offences like signature forgeries, misappropriation of the institute funds and lack proper accountability with regards to donated public funds are some of the complaints presented at the last AGM against erstwhile Solomon Edebiri led executive or team, and which the institute is studying for proper redress and compliance with the law.
  3. That we may not want to come the public with the details of the atrocities committed by the bunch of interlopers behind the said publication, unless we are forced by this type of improper, misleading and/or exaggerated spurious claims.
  4. FINALLY, in the interest of NIW, and in order not to expose these shenanigans to the public, Solomon Edebiri must henceforth desist from further blasphemy against genuine efforts to resuscitate the institute.
