Nigeria Among Most Attractive Investment Destinations in Oil and Gas Industry
Nigeria has been identified as one of the most attractive investment destinations in the global oil and gas industry, with the Federal Government urging operators to take advantage of emerging short-term opportunities in the sector.
The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), Heineken Lokpobiri, made this known in a statement shared on X following his participation at the Cross Industry Group (CIG) meeting in London, England.
According to the minister, the current global situation presents a critical window that stakeholders must collectively leverage, particularly in light of the ongoing rise in global crude oil prices.
“Nigeria remains one of the most attractive investment destinations in the global oil and gas industry. However, the current global situation presents a window of opportunity that we must collectively take advantage of in the short term,” Lokpobiri said.
He noted that Nigeria is well positioned to help bridge emerging supply gaps and challenged operators to move beyond merely recognising the opportunity by pursuing initiatives capable of delivering immediate production gains.
Lokpobiri identified re-entry programmes, in-field well development, and other operational strategies that can be quickly executed as key measures to boost output in the short term.
He also highlighted the strength of Nigeria’s investment climate, citing improvements in regulatory predictability and the growing collaboration between government agencies and the Oil Producers Trade Section (OPTS).
The minister further pointed to the implementation of Executive Orders and targeted incentives as reforms already generating positive momentum within the industry.
While reaffirming the government’s commitment to strengthening the sector, Lokpobiri urged investors to reciprocate by committing to more Final Investment Decisions (FIDs), which he said are crucial to driving growth and maximising the country’s potential in the global energy market.
