NEITI Urges Transparency in Energy Transition, Assigns Roles to Media and CSOs
Abuja, Nigeria – September 16, 2025
The Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (NEITI) has reaffirmed its commitment to accountability in the nation’s energy transition, warning that poor management could deepen energy poverty for millions.
Presenting an interim report on energy transition impacts, Executive Secretary Dr. Orji Ogbonnaya Orji said Nigeria risks fiscal instability, job losses, and stranded assets if it fails to align with global trends.
He urged the media to simplify findings for the public and hold policymakers accountable, while calling on civil society to defend vulnerable groups and demand climate justice.
The report, supported by the Ford Foundation, highlights the need for Nigeria to access global climate finance and technology transfer while balancing profitability with sustainability.
Stakeholders, including the Natural Resource Governance Institute and the Media Initiative for Transparency in Extractive Industries, pledged continued support in amplifying NEITI’s advocacy.
