NDPHC Urges More Industrial Firms to Join Direct Power Purchase Scheme
The Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC) has urged high-energy-consuming businesses across Nigeria to subscribe to its Eligible Customer Programme (ECP), which enables direct electricity purchases from NDPHC and other generation companies.
In a statement, the company explained that the ECP—originally launched in 2017 and updated in 2024—offers industrial and commercial users access to stable, reliable, and competitively priced electricity. Through the initiative, approved customers can obtain between 6MW and 20MW of power, backed by a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) and flexible tariff arrangements.
With over 2,000MW of stranded power capacity, NDPHC said it is scaling up efforts to optimize its generation assets by selling electricity directly to bulk users. The company believes the programme will help ease its liquidity pressures while stimulating industrial productivity and economic growth.
NDPHC’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Engr. Jennifer Adighije, described the programme as a strategic tool for enhancing Nigeria’s industrial competitiveness.
“The Eligible Customer framework is designed to strengthen Nigeria’s industrial growth by guaranteeing efficient, reliable, and affordable electricity directly from our plants to businesses,” she said. “Phoenix Steel Mills is a clear demonstration of how stable power translates into higher productivity, cost savings, and stronger value chains for the economy.”
Adighije added that the impressive outcomes recorded by early participants have encouraged NDPHC to expand the scheme to more industrial clusters nationwide.
Among the current beneficiaries of the ECP is Phoenix Steel Mills.
