NAPE Celebrates 50th Anniversary, Honours Industry Leaders and Partners

Lagos, Nigeria – August 2025: The Nigerian Association of Petroleum Explorationists (NAPE) has marked its 50th anniversary with a grand celebration, recognising industry leaders, professionals, and corporate partners who have made significant contributions to the growth of Nigeria’s oil and gas sector.

From 10 Pioneers to Over 18,000 Members

Established five decades ago by ten visionary geoscientists, NAPE has evolved into Nigeria’s largest professional association of petroleum explorationists. Today, it boasts over 18,000 members, including more than 10,000 students across 58 active university chapters nationwide.

NAPE President, Johnbosco Uche, described the Golden Jubilee as more than a celebration, calling it a “milestone that challenges members to provide leadership and drive innovation” in an industry undergoing transformation.

Honouring Industry Icons and Institutions

At the awards ceremony, NAPE presented 50 recognitions across different categories.

  • Lifetime Achievement Award: Chief Chamberlain Oyibo, former Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).

  • Posthumous Honours: Dr. Kingsley Ojor and several past NAPE presidents for their service and legacy.

The award was collected by Mr. Paul Osu, Head of NUPRC’s Lagos Regional Office, on behalf of Commission Chief Executive, Engr. Gbenga Komolafe.

Other notable recognitions included:

  • Golden Jubilee Partner Award for Excellence in Geoscience and Industry Advancement – awarded to members of the Nigerian Mining and Geoscience Society (NMGS).

  • Corporate Sponsors’ Awards – presented to international oil companies (IOCs), indigenous independents, and nine corporate partners, including Pro-ally, for their outstanding contributions to the sector.

A Call to the Next Generation

Delivering his remarks, Prof. Emmanuel Enu, Chairman of NAPE’s Advisory Council and a past president, described the 50th anniversary as a symbolic milestone for the Nigerian oil and gas industry. He urged young professionals to carry forward NAPE’s founding vision and prepare to lead the association into its next 50 years.

NAPE President-elect, Olajumoke Ajayi, also expressed gratitude to the founding fathers, past presidents, trustees, members, and the student body. She reminded members of the association’s upcoming Annual International Conference, scheduled for November 10–13, which will build on the momentum of the Golden Jubilee.

NAPE at 50 reflects a legacy of excellence, innovation, and resilience in Nigeria’s energy industry, while also charting a new path for the next generation of professionals.
