Indigenous Solutions Key to Nigeria’s Emission Targets – Alfa Designs MD

Mr. Fatai Quadri, Group Managing Director of Alfa Designs Nigeria Ltd. (ADNL), has emphasized the urgent need to develop indigenous solutions to effectively curb greenhouse gas (GHG) and fugitive emissions across Nigeria.

Speaking at the inauguration and media tour of ADNL’s facility in Lagos, Quadri asserted that Nigeria has both the technical expertise and innovation potential to lead West Africa in emissions management—without overreliance on foreign intervention.

“We have the talent and capacity right here in Nigeria to detect, monitor, and mitigate fugitive emissions,” he said.

Fugitive emissions often unintentional leaks of methane, carbon dioxide, and other gases, pose a serious environmental threat, especially in Nigeria’s oil, gas, and industrial sectors. Quadri urged for increased investment in local infrastructure, training, and technology to tackle these challenges.

He called on the Federal Government to strengthen partnerships between policymakers, the private sector, and academic institutions to support homegrown solutions. He also advocated for enabling legislation and incentives that prioritize environmental sustainability through local capacity development.

Highlighting Nigeria’s climate commitments under the Paris Agreement, Quadri reaffirmed the nation’s pledge to reduce GHG emissions by 47% by 2030, with full elimination of gas flaring and a 60% reduction in methane emissions by the same year.

“We need to move away from diesel-powered engines, which are a major source of carbon soot and climate change,” Quadri added, stressing the urgency of adopting Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) as an alternative.

Alfa Designs Leading the Charge

As part of its environmental sustainability drive, ADNL is investing over $17 million in infrastructure and equipment for emission detection and control. The company is also spearheading a “train-the-trainers” programme, selecting 13 participants from Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones for advanced training using the EyeCGas 2.0 Optical Gas Imaging Camera.

Mr. Mubarak Abdul, ADNL’s Chief Operating Officer, called on the government and oil sector players to actively engage indigenous companies like Alfa Designs in solving the nation’s emission problems. He also revealed the company’s partnership with Israeli firm OPTGAL Optronics to enhance gas leak detection technology in Nigeria.

ADNL currently works with major energy firms including Chevron, NNPCL, ND Western, and Seplat.

OGI trainers Miss Louisa Kpohearor and Miss Oghobi Sandra also praised the programme, confirming their certification to carry out investigations across oil and gas facilities in Nigeria.

Founded in 2006, Alfa Designs is a fully indigenous Engineering, Procurement, Installation, Commissioning & Asset Integrity Management (EPICA) company. It is committed to delivering innovative, cost-effective, and environmentally responsible services to both private and public sector clients.
