Governor Oborevwore Pledges Safety and Support for Renaissance Operations in Delta State
Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwore, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to ensuring a secure and supportive environment for Renaissance Africa Energy Company Limited, the new operator of the NNPC/Renaissance/TotalEnergies/AENR Joint Venture and successor to Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC).
Speaking during a meeting with the company’s leadership in Asaba on Thursday, Governor Oborevwore assured Renaissance of the state’s stability and welcoming investment climate. “You will do well in Delta State,” he said. “Your operations are safe here. Delta is one of the most peaceful states in the South-South. Security is a priority for us, and we don’t take it lightly.”
He emphasized the importance of collaboration and mutual respect between the company and host communities. “I believe in dialogue over confrontation. If you build strong relationships with your host communities and keep them involved, you won’t face problems. Play your part, and the government will fully support you. We will not tolerate attacks on oil installations.”
The governor called for a robust and forward-looking partnership that benefits all stakeholders, expressing his administration’s full alignment with Renaissance’s vision for energy security and sustainable industrial growth.
The Renaissance delegation, led by Chairman Dr. Layi Fatona and Managing Director/CEO Tony Attah, reiterated their commitment to supporting Delta State’s MORE Agenda — focused on Meaningful Development, Opportunities for All, Realistic Reforms, and Enhanced Peace and Security.
Tony Attah described Renaissance’s emergence as a transformative moment for Nigeria’s energy sector. “This is one of the greatest opportunities for Nigeria to get it right,” he stated. “We’re beginning in the Niger Delta, but our ambition is continental. We aim to be Africa’s energy leader.”
Attah also expressed gratitude for the Delta State government’s past support of SPDC and voiced optimism about the future. “We believe you’ll give us even greater support. We’re committed to doing more and surpassing Shell’s legacy.”
Renaissance recently completed the acquisition of SPDC, including its 30% stake in the joint venture, positioning it as the largest oil and gas operator in Nigeria.
