Global EITI Congratulates NEITI Executive Secretary on Appointment
The Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (NEITI) has received a formal congratulatory message from the EITI International Secretariat following the appointment of its new Executive Secretary, Hon. Musa Sarkin Adar.
The EITI International Secretariat expressed confidence in NEITI’s institutional capacity and reaffirmed its readiness to deepen collaboration and provide sustained technical support to the Nigerian chapter.

The message, signed by Mr. Bady Balde, Deputy Head of the EITI International Secretariat based in Oslo, Norway, acknowledged Nigeria’s long-standing role within the global EITI process since 2003. It highlighted NEITI’s pioneering contributions, including the recovery of unremitted revenues, the promotion of evidence-based policy reforms, and the advancement of beneficial ownership transparency.
According to the global body, these achievements represent critical milestones in strengthening transparency and accountability in Nigeria’s extractive sector.
“Nigeria has been an important implementing country within the EITI family. We congratulate the new Executive Secretary and stand ready to support NEITI as it prepares for Validation and advances transparency reforms that will strengthen revenue mobilisation and attract investment,” the Global Transparency Body stated.
The EITI International Secretariat also referenced the EITI Board’s November 2023 assessment, which awarded Nigeria an overall score of 72 out of 100 points, noting that NEITI’s new leadership comes at a critical moment.
With Nigeria’s next Validation scheduled for July 2026 to assess compliance with the 2023 EITI Standard, the International Secretariat emphasised expectations for more impactful, results-oriented implementation of the Initiative in Nigeria.
“I am aware that there is an expectation for NEITI to actively support government priorities on revenue mobilisation, attracting investment, and informing government strategies on economic diversification, particularly regarding the development of solid minerals. The International Secretariat stands ready to support you in navigating these priorities,” Mr. Balde affirmed.
In his response, the Executive Secretary of NEITI, Hon. Musa Sarkin Adar, reaffirmed the organisation’s readiness to work closely with the EITI International Secretariat, government partners, civil society organisations, and industry stakeholders to sustain momentum on transparency reforms.
He noted that NEITI remains committed to ensuring that the upcoming Validation exercise, alongside ongoing policy initiatives, delivers tangible and measurable benefits for Nigerians.
The Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) is the global standard that promotes open and accountable management of oil, gas, and mineral resources through multi-stakeholder collaboration in resource-rich countries. NEITI serves as the national implementing body of the EITI in Nigeria, with the mandate to promote transparency and accountability in the management of the country’s extractive resources.
