Egbin Power Deepens Community Cohesion, Youth Empowerment through Sustained Social Investment Programme

Egbin Power Plc has reaffirmed its commitment to sustainable development, social inclusion, and strong community relations through its Personal Corporate Social Responsibility (PCSR) initiatives, with a renewed focus on youth empowerment and social cohesion across its host communities.

One of the most prominent pillars of this commitment is the company’s annual community football tournament, a youth-centred social investment programme that has grown into a unifying platform for positive engagement, talent development, and relationship-building among neighbouring communities around the Egbin axis.

Football as a Tool for Unity and Development

Now in its fourth edition, the tournament has evolved into a signature programme that brings together young people from multiple host communities, encouraging interaction, mutual respect, and a shared sense of purpose beyond competition.

Over the years, the initiative has consistently demonstrated Egbin Power’s belief that sustainable development thrives in environments where communities are united, engaged, and empowered, particularly when young people are constructively involved.

From the opening fixtures to the final match, the 2025 edition featured 16 teams drawn from Egbin Power’s host communities, with weeks of matches marked by discipline, teamwork, and exemplary sportsmanship.

The final match, held at the Egbin Power sports field, saw Alanu-Omo FC edge Dragon Ipakan FC with a narrow 1–0 victory in a closely contested encounter that drew strong community attendance and enthusiasm.

Strategic Social Investment, Not Just Recreation

Speaking on the significance of the programme, Felix Ofulue, Head of Corporate Communications & Branding at Egbin Power, described the tournament as a deliberate and strategic investment in people and communities.

“At Egbin Power, we are deeply passionate about initiatives that bring people together and create lasting value,” Ofulue said.

“This programme has grown into a platform for nurturing talent, engaging young people constructively, and strengthening bonds across communities. Beyond recreation, it instils critical life skills such as teamwork, leadership, discipline, and resilience—qualities that are essential for personal growth and societal progress.”

He added that the company’s objective is to continue evolving the initiative into a strong unifying force that strengthens inter-community relationships while reinforcing Egbin Power’s identity as a responsible, people-centred organisation.

Youth Voices and Community Impact

Captain of the winning team, Samad Ojikutu of Alanu-Omo FC, expressed appreciation to Egbin Power for its sustained investment in youth empowerment and community development.

“We commend Egbin Power for consistently creating opportunities for young people in the host communities,” he said.

“This is a programme we always look forward to. Winning is exciting, but what matters most is the unity we experience as a team and as a community. It reminds us that we can achieve so much more when we work together.”

Beyond the trophy, participants and community members alike highlighted the broader social value of the programme, noting that it promotes positive engagement, reduces youth restiveness, and strengthens social bonds.

Rewards and Recognition

At the end of the competition, Alanu-Omo FC emerged champions and received a cash prize of ₦1 million, while the runners-up and third-place teams were awarded ₦700,000 and ₦500,000 respectively.

The event also attracted notable stakeholders, including community leaders and sports professionals, who commended Egbin Power for creating a credible and impactful platform for youth development.

Community leader and retired Grade 1 referee, Prince Samson Ekundayo, described the initiative as both timely and impactful.

“Programmes like this are critical for community development. They give young people opportunities to showcase their talents, while also learning the values of cooperation, discipline, and respect,” he said.

Commitment to Shared Value

Egbin Power reiterated that initiatives of this nature remain central to its long-term approach to inclusion, empowerment, and sustainable community relations, noting that deliberate investments in youth and social cohesion are essential for building trust, strengthening brand affinity, and creating shared value.

As Nigeria’s largest power generation company by installed capacity, Egbin Power continues to position community engagement as a core component of its sustainability strategy, recognising that strong communities are fundamental to long-term operational success.
