EFCC Apprehends Five Individuals for Illegal Possession of Solid Minerals.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has made public the arrest of five individuals suspected of possessing and transporting three truckloads of assorted solid minerals without the necessary licenses in Ilorin, Kwara State.

As per the EFCC’s official statement, the detained individuals consist of three truck drivers and two motor boys. Their apprehension occurred along Maraba Road in Ilorin and Ogbomosho in Oyo State following credible intelligence and surveillance operations conducted last week.

The EFCC disclosed that the suspects were intercepted while in transit with solid minerals, suspected to include marble stone, white powder, lithium, and lepidolite, en route to Shagamu and Alakija in Ogun and Lagos States, respectively, for commercial purposes without the requisite licenses.

This arrest follows the previous operation conducted by the Ilorin Zonal Command of the EFCC on February 5, 2024, during which 41 individuals were apprehended for suspected involvement in illegal mining activities. Additionally, 12 truckloads of assorted minerals mined without appropriate licenses were impounded during the operation.

The EFCC has affirmed that following the conclusion of investigations, the suspects will be charged in court as part of the agency’s ongoing efforts to curb illegal activities in the solid minerals sector.
