ECN Partners LONGi to Boost Local Solar Manufacturing, Renewable Energy Growth in Nigeria
The Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN) has entered into a strategic partnership with LONGi, the world’s largest solar panel manufacturer, to strengthen Nigeria’s renewable energy ecosystem and accelerate local solar manufacturing.
The collaboration was formalised during a high-level visit by the Director-General of the Energy Commission, Dr. Abdullahi Mustapha, to LONGi’s headquarters in Xi’an, China. The move underscores Nigeria’s growing commitment to clean energy innovation, technology transfer, and sustainable industrial growth.
According to a statement, the agreement builds on a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) previously signed in London, which aims to expand Nigeria’s participation in the global renewable energy value chain and attract investments into local solar production.
“The Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN) has taken a major step toward strengthening the country’s renewable energy ecosystem through a strategic partnership with LONGi, the world’s largest solar panel manufacturer,” read the statement.
“The collaboration, formalised during a high-level visit by ECN Director-General Dr. Abdullahi Mustapha to LONGi’s headquarters in Xi’an, China, reinforces Nigeria’s commitment to clean energy innovation and local manufacturing.
“The agreement builds on an earlier Memorandum of Understanding signed in London, designed to expand Nigeria’s participation in the global renewable energy value chain.”
Nigeria aims to generate 30,000 megawatts (MW) of electricity by 2030, with renewable energy accounting for 30 percent of the total capacity. This target, outlined in the National Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Policy (NREAP), is designed to boost the nation’s power supply while promoting a transition to cleaner and more sustainable energy sources to support its rapidly growing population.
