The Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR), Lagos Zonal office, (Gas Unit) on Monday, apprehended an illegal mobile gas distribution vehicle within Isheri road, Berger, Lagos.
The Department, in Collaboration with Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) during its surveillance visit arrested a mobile Gas operator with a vehicle laden with one metric ton (1MT) Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) (cooking gas) Tank with dispensing unit accessories and weight bridge used in dispensing same products.
The DPR said that due to the high risk the vehicle posed to life and properties, the vehicle was towed to NSCDC office.
Similarly, another independent Gas operator “ES Gas operator’’ was arrested for operating without category D retail outlet licence.
The surveillance visit is part of the Department’s effort to sensitise LPG operators within the state and the Public.
In March, the Department sealed off seven illegal plants and three retail outlets refilling LPG cylinders in the same state.
The plants and outlets were shut for operating without licences from the DPR. Some were located in the wrong place such as under high-tension lines and in densely populated areas.
The affected facilities were Banner Gas LPG refilling plant in Lekki Phase I; Top Gas LPG, Jakande, Lekki; Dolax Gas, Ifako, Gbagada; Spades Energy Limited, Maryland; Daridson Gas Plant, Iroko Awe Town, Elegushi, Lekki Phase II; Pivot Cooking Gas Plant, Bariga, and Chibuzor Gas, Maryland.
