Delta Gov Flags Off Kwale Free Trade Zone, Vows to Drive State’s Industrial Transformation
Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, on Tuesday, launched the Kwale Free Trade Zone (KFTZ) project in Ndokwa West Local Government Area, marking a major milestone in his administration’s bid to industrialise the state.
The KFTZ, a key component of the Delta Special Economic Zone Initiative, is designed to attract both local and international investors, generate employment opportunities, and position Delta as a leading industrial hub in Nigeria’s South-South region.
Speaking during the groundbreaking ceremony, Governor Oborevwori described the project as the fulfillment of his administration’s commitment to drive economic diversification and prosperity across the state.
“Today’s groundbreaking is not just another project launch. It is the fulfillment of our commitment to diversify Delta’s economy, expand our industrial base, and lay the foundation for generational prosperity,” the governor said.
He emphasized that the KFTZ would serve as a catalyst for innovation, technology, and industrial growth, declaring, “We are building a Delta where innovation, technology, and industry will thrive.”
Highlighting Kwale’s strategic advantages, Oborevwori noted that the area’s abundant gas resources and central location make it ideal for energy-driven industries.
He revealed that eight companies have already expressed interest in operating within the zone — two have been fully licensed, three approved, and three others are in the final stages of regulatory clearance.
“Delta State has invested over ₦3 billion in Delta Wires Industries, the first company to take off within this zone. The firm will produce conductors, cables, and gas cylinders for LPG and CNG markets. This is how we will use our gas resources to power growth and create jobs for our people,” he stated.
The governor reiterated his administration’s commitment to providing infrastructure, ensuring security, and maintaining an investor-friendly environment.
He also cautioned against encroachment on lands acquired for the project.
“We have acquired 1,000 hectares of land and full compensation has been paid. Anyone attempting to encroach will be stopped. This project belongs to all Deltans—it is our collective future,” Oborevwori warned.
