DAPPMAN Counters Dangote Refinery, Demands Fair Competition
Lagos, Nigeria – September 16, 2025
The Depot and Petroleum Products Marketers Association of Nigeria (DAPPMAN) has rejected what it called “misleading and factually incorrect” claims by Dangote Petroleum Refinery, stressing that Nigeria’s downstream petroleum sector cannot be monopolized.
In a strongly worded statement, DAPPMAN denied allegations of sponsoring labour strikes, product diversion, and fuel quality infractions. It argued that recent pump price reductions were due to currency stability, declining crude prices, and deregulation reforms, not Dangote’s influence.
DAPPMAN also criticized the refinery for allegedly offering discounts to foreign traders while restricting Nigerian marketers’ access to coastal vessel loading.
“Every player in the value chain has a vital role. Attempts to sideline marketers in favour of one refinery are monopolistic and harmful to Nigeria’s economy,” the group said.
The association issued a seven-day ultimatum for Dangote to provide evidence of alleged product diversion or retract the claim, warning of possible legal action.
