Dangote Refinery Exports 456,000 Tonnes of Fuel to Five African Countries
The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has expanded its footprint across Africa with the export of 12 cargoes of refined petroleum products, totalling 456,000 tonnes, to five countries as concerns grow over fuel supply disruptions linked to tensions in the Middle East.
The PUNCH gathered on Sunday that the products were sold to international traders on a Free on Board basis and shipped to Côte d’Ivoire, Cameroon, Tanzania, Ghana, and Togo. The development marks a major milestone for the refinery since it reached its full processing capacity of 650,000 barrels per day in February 2026.
A senior refinery official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorised to comment publicly, said the exports reflect increasing confidence in Nigeria’s refining capacity and a changing fuel supply pattern across the continent.
According to the source, the refinery’s successful sale of the 12 cargoes has strengthened Nigeria’s position in the regional energy market.
The official said the shipments, handled by traders and bound for the five African countries, represent exports of Premium Motor Spirit from the refinery since it attained full capacity earlier this year.
He added that the products were sold on an FOB basis to international traders for onward delivery to the listed destinations.
“The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has strengthened Nigeria’s presence in the regional energy market with the successful sales of 12 cargoes by traders, totalling 456,000 tonnes (456KT) of refined petroleum products.
“The shipments by traders, destined for countries such as Côte d’Ivoire, Cameroon, Tanzania, Ghana, and Togo, represent the refinery’s export of Premium Motor Spirit since achieving 650,000 barrels a day capacity in February 2026.
“The products were sold on an FOB (Free on Board) basis to international traders for deliveries to the above-identified countries of export,” the official was quoted as saying.
In volume terms, the 456,000 tonnes of refined petroleum products amount to about 608 million litres, highlighting the scale of the exports and their potential significance for fuel supply in several African markets.
