Dangote Packaging Targets Regional Markets After Major Production Boost
Dangote Packaging Limited (DPL) is setting its sights on new African markets as it ramps up production capacity following the installation of state-of-the-art machinery at its manufacturing plants.
At a recent strategic board meeting, the Chairman of DPL’s Board, Mr. Robert Ade-Odiachi, announced that the company has increased its monthly output from 36 million to 52 million polypropylene bags. He added that this is just the beginning of a broader expansion drive.
“With the current increase in production capacity, DPL is ready to explore markets across West, Central, and Southern Africa,” Ade-Odiachi said. “Once domestic demand is met, it is only logical to channel our surplus to new territories. To this end, we have engaged an export team to lead the charge.”
He emphasized that DPL’s expansion into exports will be underpinned by premium quality, competitive pricing, and adherence to international standards. “We are equipped with state-of-the-art machinery, skilled manpower, and robust systems. Our product quality is unmatched, and our pricing remains competitive,” he said.
The packaging company’s expansion aligns with the broader growth strategy of the Dangote Group, ensuring supply chain efficiency within the conglomerate while positioning DPL as a major player in Africa’s packaging industry.
Ade-Odiachi also noted that the recent availability of raw materials from Dangote’s refinery and petrochemical operations has enhanced DPL’s self-sufficiency and long-term sustainability.
Speaking at the meeting, Alhaji Mustapha Matawalle, Treasurer of the Dangote Group and a member of DPL’s Board, highlighted the broader economic impact of the expansion.
“This is not just about market dominance and revenue generation,” he said. “It’s also about creating jobs and boosting Nigeria’s foreign exchange earnings through export activity.”
He also praised DPL for maintaining high standards in Health, Safety, Security, and Environmental (HSSE) compliance.
DPL’s growth push follows the commissioning of advanced production machinery in April. At the event, the company’s Managing Director, Mr. Sai Prakash, hailed the new equipment as crucial to boosting efficiency and product quality.
“With our rapidly expanding capabilities, stepping into the African market is a natural and timely progression,” Mr Sai Prakash said.
