Dangote Group Refutes Truck Ownership in Akungba-Akoko Accident, Warns Against Misinformation
The Dangote Group, one of Africa’s most diversified conglomerates, has issued a firm rebuttal of reports circulating across social media and some online platforms linking it to a tragic truck accident in Akungba-Akoko, located in the Akoko South-West Local Government Area of Ondo State.
In an official statement released by the company’s Corporate Communications Department, Dangote Industries clarified in unequivocal terms that the vehicle involved in the accident “does not belong to the Dangote Group or any of its subsidiaries.”
According to verified registration records, the truck with Plate Number JJJ 365 XB was found to be owned and operated by an independent logistics company with no operational, contractual, or ownership ties to Dangote Industries Limited. The company emphasized that the truck was not carrying any Dangote product but was instead transporting crushed stones in recycled sacks that bore various brand markings — a fact that, according to the conglomerate, has been confirmed through field inspection and verification.
Dangote Industries, which operates one of the most sophisticated fleet management systems in Africa, stressed that all genuine Dangote trucks are distinctly branded, serialized, and GPS-tracked under a rigorous safety and compliance protocol. The company’s official fleet numbering and logo placement system, it said, make it virtually impossible for an authentic Dangote truck to be mistaken for an unbranded vehicle.
“We maintain a zero-tolerance approach to vehicle misuse or misidentification. All Dangote trucks are clearly marked and can be traced in real-time. We urge the public to avoid jumping to conclusions whenever accidents involving heavy-duty trucks occur,” the company stated.
Dangote Industries expressed deep sympathy for the victims and families affected by the accident, reaffirming its commitment to road safety, public responsibility, and transparency in all its logistics operations. It also called on media houses and social commentators to exercise professionalism by verifying claims before attributing any incident to the company.
The statement further appealed to news outlets not to use photos of Dangote-branded trucks in connection with unrelated accidents, warning that such practices can mislead the public and cause reputational damage to legitimate companies.
The conglomerate reaffirmed its position as a leader in corporate responsibility, noting that it continues to collaborate with relevant road safety agencies and regulators to reduce highway fatalities, improve driver training standards, and promote responsible trucking operations across Nigeria and the African continent.
