Chevron, NCDMB, and Geoscape Celebrate Local Talent at HCD Graduation Ceremony
11 young Nigerians complete world-class training in gas technology, hailed as future industry leaders
LAGOS, July 30, 2025 — In a significant boost to Nigeria’s local content development agenda, 11 exceptional young Nigerians have successfully graduated from a rigorous Human Capital Development (HCD) training programme, co-sponsored by Chevron Nigeria Limited and implemented in partnership with the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) and Geoscape Nigeria Limited.
The close-out ceremony, held at Geoscape’s training facility in Lagos, celebrated the completion of a 12-month, high-impact programme combining classroom instruction, hands-on technical experience, and international training in the United Kingdom.
The programme, tagged ‘Chevron Nigeria Limited Purchase of Unit 20 Autothermal Reformer Cooled Tip Swirler Burner Assembly’, is part of NCDMB’s broader strategy to develop local talent through project-based human capacity development tied to major oil and gas operations.
A Testament to Vision and Partnership
Speaking at the ceremony, NCDMB Executive Secretary, Felix Omatsola Ogbe, represented by Barr. Esueme Dan-Kikile, General Manager, Human Capacity Development, hailed the initiative as a “vision realised.”
“This programme is not just training—it is nation-building in action,” Ogbe said. “Each graduate here today represents a future leader in Nigeria’s energy space. They are the answer to our quest for homegrown solutions and technical independence.”
Ogbe praised Chevron and Geoscape for their dedication to the programme, citing it as a shining example of public-private synergy delivering measurable impact.
“Chevron has consistently demonstrated its belief in people, not just as a regulatory mandate, but as a social investment. Geoscape, meanwhile, continues to set the bar in professionalism and capacity building,” he added.
Chevron’s HCD Adviser, Mr. Victor Inyere, representing Ms. Edwina Kentebe-Oluwakayode, General Manager of Nigerian Content, Ventures & Regulatory Affairs, reaffirmed the company’s long-term commitment to sustainable development through human capital investment.
“We believe that every community is built on its people,” he said. “By investing in young Nigerians, we’re investing in the future of this country. NCDMB isn’t just our regulator—they’re our partners in progress.”
Geoscape’s Vision: Excellence and Sustainability
In her remarks, Geoscape CEO, Modupe Jegede, welcomed guests and lauded NCDMB for providing an enabling framework for indigenous companies like Geoscape to thrive.
“Without the Nigerian Content Act, we wouldn’t be where we are today,” she said. “We’re not just in business to make profit—we’re here to create something sustainable and world-class.”
Jegede announced that Geoscape is finalizing a state-of-the-art technical training school, designed to serve future generations of technicians and engineers.
“We’re installing the best equipment and setting global standards,” she added. “We want to build a legacy that outlives us.”
Trainees Speak: A Life-Changing Experience
The highlight of the event was the testimonies from the graduates. Elizabeth Oyeyemi, the only female in the cohort, shared her inspiring journey through the programme.
“This experience showed me that there are no limits for women in technical careers,” she said. “Beyond the training, the care and support we received from NCDMB, Chevron, and Geoscape made it empowering.”
Another trainee, Ayandipo Feyintoluwa, described the programme as “eye-opening and innovative”, citing modules such as online leak sealing and composite repair as particularly impactful.
“This shouldn’t be the end,” he said. “We want more young Nigerians to have this kind of opportunity.”
The event ended with a shared affirmation: that investing in people is Nigeria’s most powerful strategy for long-term competitiveness, especially in the evolving global energy landscape.
