Bouyer, TotalEnergies MD says Company Plan to Maximize Existing Onshore and Offshore Assets

Managing Director of TotalEnergies E&P, Matthieu Bouyer says company has revealed a bold dual strategy at the ongoing Nigerian International Energy Summit, NIES2026, balancing operational expansion with sustainability.

Speaking during a panel session on the theme “Capitalizing Africa’s Global Upstream Momentum,” Bouyer outlined TotalEnergies’ plan to maximize output from existing onshore and offshore assets, explaining: “We have a portfolio with multiple project opportunities, which we continuously measure to optimize production.”

He highlighted a recent project launch and teased several upcoming initiatives aimed at boosting Nigeria’s oil and gas capacity.

Bouyer disclosed that routine gas flaring has been fully stopped in Nigeria and that methane sensors now track emissions in real time, allowing the company to reduce environmental impact proactively.                  He also announced a five-megawatt solar plant at OML 58, powering one of the country’s first near-net-zero gas developments.

The executive stressed that strategic divestments must ensure production continuity and operator success, saying, “We’re more focused on operational efficiency while embedding sustainability into every step of our work.”

Bouyer concluded by emphasizing the importance of a stable regulatory framework and consistent investment environment to attract global capital and support long-term projects.
