Asharami Energy Reaffirms Commitment to Local Capacity Development and Sustainable Growth
Asharami Energy, a Sahara Group Upstream Company, has reiterated its dedication to driving inclusive growth and boosting local content development across Nigeria’s energy sector through strategic investments, responsible operations, and strong stakeholder collaboration.
At the 5th edition of the Nigerian Oil and Gas Opportunity Fair (NOGOF) held in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, Leste Aihevba, Chief Technical Officer of Asharami Energy, emphasized the critical need for enhanced local capacity and participation to strengthen Nigeria’s energy security.
Aihevba highlighted the company’s near 100% local content involvement, noting that all but the most complex technologies are delivered by Nigerian service providers. “Services ranging from subsurface reviews, field development, well interventions, drilling, civil works, to infrastructure projects such as flowlines, pipelines, flow stations, roads, and location construction are all provided by local companies,” he said.
He stressed that Asharami Energy’s collaboration and capacity-building efforts underscore its commitment to responsible growth. “Our message at NOGOF 2025 is simple: Asharami Energy is not just developing assets; we’re developing people, communities, and promoting shared prosperity. Success is measured not only by barrels produced but by the positive impact and value created,” Aihevba added.
Further distinguishing between national local content and community participation, Aihevba pointed to the company’s gas-to-power initiative in Ajoki community, Edo State. This project delivers uninterrupted power, promotes clean energy, and supports environmental sustainability. In partnership with the University of Benin Consultancy Services, Asharami also runs vocational training programs annually, empowering up to 20 youths from the community with valuable skills.
In addition, Asharami Energy has invested in infrastructure improvements such as road construction to enhance market access and organizes health and education programs to improve living standards in host communities.
NOGOF 2025, themed “Driving Investment and Production Growth: Shaping a Sustainable Future for Nigeria’s Oil and Gas Industry Through Indigenous Capacity Development,” featured high-level discussions and exhibitions aimed at spotlighting the importance of local capacity in achieving Nigeria’s energy transition goals.
