Ardova, APM Terminals Roll Out Smart Lubrication System to Enhance Apapa Port Operations
In a statement released on Tuesday, Ardova Plc described the collaboration as a move to strengthen operational reliability at the country’s ports, particularly at the Apapa terminal—widely regarded as the largest container hub in West Africa.
The initiative comes amid growing demand for efficiency at the Apapa facility, which plays a critical role in handling the significant trade volumes that underpin Nigeria’s economy.
At the core of the partnership is the deployment of the Modern Pulse Central Lubrication Dispensing System (CLDS), an automated solution developed in collaboration with Shell. The system replaces manual lubricant handling with a closed-loop digital network that enables real-time monitoring and precise distribution across heavy-duty equipment, including cranes and reach stackers.
According to a joint statement by the companies, the collaboration reflects a shared commitment to adopting advanced lubrication technologies to boost efficiency and reliability across key infrastructure.
Early results from the system’s deployment indicate reduced product losses, improved workshop safety, and faster maintenance turnaround times. By automating lubricant dispensing and preserving product integrity, the terminal has streamlined servicing operations and minimised delays.
The rollout was marked by a stakeholder engagement involving senior representatives from the three organisations, underscoring the importance of the initiative within the broader operational framework of the port.
The partners noted that the integration of digital dispensing technology enhances inventory control—an essential factor in sustaining round-the-clock port operations powered by large-scale machinery.
As a major gateway for Nigeria’s imports and exports, APM Terminals Apapa remains central to the country’s maritime logistics chain. The partnership with Ardova aligns with a wider industry shift toward smart port solutions, combining Shell’s global expertise in lubricants with Ardova’s domestic distribution capabilities.
Together, the companies aim to reduce downtime, limit manual inefficiencies, and establish new standards for operational excellence in Nigeria’s maritime industry.
